Underhood, Mitsubishi’s 4G63T turbocharged 2.0L twin cam inline-four is said to run 24 pounds of boost on 94-octane pump fuel with its current setup. A newer Optima Yellowtop battery with fresh ground cables has been relocated to the trunk, which also houses a patched spare tire carrier. Much interior trim has been removed from behind the front seats to accommodate hatch-mounted tanks for the intercooler tank and the water/methanol injection system. Instrumentation includes an odometer indicating a believed-accurate 307k kilometers (~191k miles), along with pillar-mounted air/fuel, boost, and pyrometer gauges that are powered but not completely installed. Both the stereo and air conditioning systems have been removed and a pair of toggles are mounted in the ashtray, though the seller is unsure of their respective functions. Factory door panels, carpets, and plastics remain largely serviceable with some areas of wear. The stock cloth driver’s sport seat has been modified to accept a 5-point harness and shows a duct-taped area behind the deleted headrest. Two are heavily curbed, and an included spare set of wheels is mounted with BFGoodrich Gforce KDWs for wet weather events. The wheels are from an FD RX7 and wear Dunlop Direzza DOT race rubber with plenty of life left. Both retractable headlights are working and sit flush when closed, while wraparound front markers and taillights appear clear of cracks or haze. The rest of the body looks straighter with a small variety of dings, scratches, and scuffs. Visible exterior corrosion appears limited to a small area of bubbling just ahead of a rear wheel arch.Ī generally stock appearance has been maintained apart from the wheels, a debadged rear end, and a Yakima rack mounted on the roof. Stock two-tone black and gold paint retains a decent shine overall, though sheet metal and plastic cladding wear bumps and bruises in their lower reaches from run-ins with course marker cones.
The car is reportedly street legal and is sold with clean British Columbia registration. Owned for a year by the seller, this example is described as a cost-effective and competitive entry for autocrossing thanks to additional modifications such as an air-to-water intercooler, water/methanol injection setup, and the suspension and brake upgrades detailed below. Engineered by Mitsubishi and built at the Diamond Star Motors plant in Normal, Illinois as a joint venture with Chrysler, the Talon has proved a popular platform for tuners.
